Natural Oils, Skin Care & Makeup
…prime your skin naturally
Consumers spend millions on oil controlling skin care preparations. Oil Free is a selling point for such emollients. Who would buy an oil product to balance oily skin? It just doesn’t make sense. Or does it…
It makes sense when it comes to coconut oil. In fact extra virgin coconut oil can be applied directly on your face and body. It guards against free radicals, kills bacteria and has both anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Did I mention it’s a natural moisturizer and sunscreen? Coconut oil is truly a natural wonder. The hardest thing is getting up the nerve to put the oil on your face, but once you get over that hump you can’t help but be amazed at the gradual change in your skin. And you will notice a change. Your skin will be in balanced, not too dry, not too oily. It will be softer and if you have breakouts they come and go a lot quicker.
Jojoba oil is the other member of this odd couple and is quite the merry prankster. Oil in name only, jojoba oil is a waxy ester that is very close to the skins own natural oil, sebum. When jojoba oil is applied to the skin the skin thinks it’s sebum and in turn does not over produce oil. And less oil production is great news for acne sufferers.
Now, put these two together and you have a dynamic skin primer. Balanced, soft and oil-free for pennies per application.
Start with the coconut oil and massage on your face and body. It’s best to apply the coconut oil when you’re body is still moist after a shower or bath. Give the coconut oil time to absorb into the skin, then massage the jojoba oil on the face. If you put too much of either oil on your face you can easily remove it by washing/drying your hands, massaging the oil away from your hairline and areas that feel particularly oily. Repeat this process until your skin feels moist not tacky or slick.
Once both are applied and absorbed into your skin then apply your favorite facial moisturizer and watch the science of your moisturizer work even better starting out with balanced healthy skin.
Before introducing anything new to the skin do a test patch to check for possible allergic reactions.
If the combination of coconut and jojoba oils is too much on your skin over time then only use the oil that addresses your skin’s immediate need. Grapeseed oil can replace jojoba oil and is best to use in target areas for toning the skin.
Coconut, jojoba and grapeseed oils can be purchased at Whole Foods or local health food stores.
